Located in Saint-Vulbas, near Lyon (69), vente-privee.com’s (30 000 m2) new platform equipped by Savoye (on a computing and mechanisation level) will be used as the model for the company’s future warehouses in France and the rest of Europe.
Which makes six! It accompanies its growing development (a turnover of over 700 million Euros is expected for 2010), the event-driven sales website, vente-privee.com, opened its sixth logistic site in France on October 19th 2010, it is the third in the Lyon area. With a surface area of 30 000 m2 (three cells measuring 10 000 m2 each), the new platform (Lyon 3) is intended to process products of different types, from small-sized to out-of-gauge goods. With deadlines which are always very tight: « A sale is processed in 4 days », explains Sébastien Hospital, the Logistic Director at vente-privee.com. Managed internally, the logistics have to be infallible: « E-business is above all logistics. We demand optimal preparation and delivery quality », he continues.
« As well as being a real logistic challenge, the deployment of the Lyon 3 site is also a company feat in every sense of the word» explains Alain Bussod, Savoye’s France Sales Director. Made possible by the teams working closely together over several years, « There was barely six months between the contractual agreement and the go-live».
A completely innovative organisation model
To achieve its aims, vente-privee.com didn’t hesitate to invest: the company spent over 10 million Euros on its new warehouse and put its money on hi-tech hardware. For the latter, the company renewed its trust in Savoye which has deployed its equipment and the LOGISTICS MANAGER SUITE software packages developed by its computing subsidiary, a-SIS, on its French sites since 2004.
« For Lyon 3, indicates Alain Bussod, Savoye designed with vente-privee.com a completely innovative organisation and mechanisation model: a modular, upgradeable, system able to process all types of product ».
Implemented in each of the cells, it takes into account potential extension phases. It could be increased with three or four picking station loops depending on the growth in sales or be « adapted » to suit smaller sized cells.
« Our aim is to be able to duplicate this model at other sites in Europe, to set up in a country using our own technical and computing resources », comments Sébastien Hospital.
On the IT side, the system relies on the LOGISTICS MANAGER SUITE software packages.
As far as mechanisation* is concerned, over more than 3 km of conveyors, picking stations, a high rate line with manifolds and a flow rate of 50 boxes/minute, and Jivaro® lidding machines which automatically adapt the box’s height to the content, for improved product stability and transport optimisation.
Implementation and results in record time
The site, opened in record time – is already fully operational. Over 20 000 orders, with over 3.5 items per box, are already processed there daily. « Which proves that we made the right technical and process choices», comments Sébastien Hospital. In the end, the site should dispatch around 40 000 boxes a day. « As a comparison, today we dispatch 100 000 boxes a day at our peak, for all of the sites», he reminds us. 160 people work in the new Lyon 3 warehouse.
vente-privee.com anticipates a return on investment in less than three years.
