VERY HIGH

Automated storage and retrieval system designed for high-density storage

With the ability to reach a height of up to 20 meters, take advantage of the full size of your warehouse by installing as many levels of storage as possible. You can also stack the picking stations on two or more levels, served directly by the elevators. This means that you use the minimum possible surface: your picking area will be smaller than ever.

Automated storage and retrieval system for warehouses in the UAE and Middle East

The logistics landscape across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the wider GCC is evolving at a pace that few regions can match. The rapid maturation of e-commerce, the development of large-scale distribution infrastructure, and the supply chain transformation ambitions embedded in national strategies such as Saudi Vision 2030 are reshaping what is expected of a modern warehouse, in terms of throughput, accuracy, space efficiency, and operational resilience.

For supply chain and logistics directors operating in this environment, the pressure is real and immediate. Order volumes are growing. Product ranges are expanding. Customer expectations for speed and reliability are rising. And peak periods such as Ramadan, Eid, and White Friday continue to place sudden, extreme demand on operations that need to perform flawlessly at precisely the moment when the stakes are highest.
The X-PTS automated storage and retrieval system is designed to meet these demands head-on.

  • In e-commerce and omnichannel retail, where thousands of individual order lines need to be retrieved, picked, and dispatched within tight windows, the X-PTS shuttle system delivers the very high throughput and near-perfect accuracy that manual or semi-automated operations cannot sustain at scale. Its ability to reach flows of up to 1,100 inputs and outputs per hour per aisle makes it one of the highest-performing ASRS technologies available for this type of operation.
  • In pharmaceuticals and healthcare distribution, where traceability, temperature control, and zero-error picking are non-negotiable, the X-PTS operates reliably in ambient, chilled, and freezing environments down to -25°C, ensuring product integrity and regulatory compliance across every movement.
  • In spare parts and industrial supply logistics, where a vast number of SKUs with highly variable pick frequencies need to be managed efficiently in a limited footprint, the X-PTS high-density storage architecture extracts maximum capacity from the available building height, freeing floor space and dramatically reducing the time operators spend locating and retrieving items.
  • For third-party logistics providers serving multiple clients under one roof, the X-PTS system’s modular design allows capacity to be scaled incrementally as new contracts are won and volumes grow, without requiring a complete redesign of the installation.

Across all these sectors, the combination of high throughput, high density, and the ability to scale makes the X-PTS automated storage and retrieval system a strategic investment for Middle Eastern operations that need to grow without being constrained by their infrastructure.

All about Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) Q&A

What is an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS)?

An Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) is a high-density warehouse technology that automatically places and retrieves loads from specific storage locations. At SAVOYE, our ASRS solutions, like the X-PTS shuttle, replace manual forklift or foot-based picking with robotic precision, allowing you to utilize the full height of your facility while eliminating human error.

How does an automated storage and retrieval system work?

The system works through a combination of four key components: storage racking, the shuttle vehicles (X-PTS shutlles), high-speed lifts, and the controlling software (WCS). When an order is received, the software directs a shuttle to the correct aisle and level; the shuttle picks up the bin or tray and brings it to a lift, which then delivers it to a picking station or conveyor.

What are the benefits of an automated storage and retrieval system?

Implementing SAVOYE ASRS technology offers transformative advantages:

  • Footprint reduction: save up to 80% of floor space by utilizing vertical height.
  • Extreme accuracy: near-zero error rates in picking and inventory counting.
  • Enhanced safety: reduced warehouse traffic and improved ergonomics for operators.
  • 24/7 pperations: the ability to run continuous shifts without performance drops.

What is a shuttle-based automated storage and retrieval system?

Unlike traditional crane-based ASRS, a shuttle-based system like the SAVOYE X-PTS uses independent robotic vehicles on every level (or multiple levels). This “massive parallelism” means that if one shuttle is busy, others continue to work, providing much higher throughput and redundancy than a single crane could ever achieve.

What is the difference between an ASRS and a Warehouse Management System (WMS)?

It is the difference between the “hardware” and the “intelligence”:

  • ASRS: the physical robotic equipment that moves the goods.
  • WMS: the software that manages the data, orders, and inventory logic.

The SAVOYE WMS (ODATiO) tells the ASRS which item is needed, and the ASRS physically delivers it.

How does an automated storage and retrieval system improve warehouse productivity?

Productivity is boosted by eliminating “dead time.” In a manual warehouse, pickers spend 60% of their time walking. With a SAVOYE ASRS, the goods come to the person (Goods-to-Person). This allows a single operator to process significantly more orders per hour with much less physical fatigue.

Is an automated storage and retrieval system suitable for high-throughput environments?

Absolutely. In fact, it is designed for them. SAVOYE’s shuttle technology is specifically engineered for high-cadence environments like E-commerce, Spare Parts, and Grocery retail, where thousands of order lines must be processed every hour with no room for delay.

How does an ASRS integrate with goods-to-person systems?

The ASRS is the engine of the Goods-to-Person (GTP) pick station. The system retrieves the required SKU and delivers it directly to a high-speed picking station. The operator remains stationary while the  SAVOYE system presents the items in the exact sequence needed for packing, maximizing ergonomic efficiency and speed.

What types of products can be stored in an automated storage and retrieval system?

The SAVOYE X-PTS is highly versatile. It is ideal for small to medium-sized goods stored in totes, bins, or trays. This includes anything from pharmaceuticals and cosmetics to apparel, electronics, and ambient or chilled food products.

How scalable is an automated storage and retrieval system?

Scalability is a core feature of SAVOYE design. You can start with a system that fits your current volume and easily add more shuttles or extend the racking as your business grows. This “modular” approach allows Middle Eastern enterprises to scale their investment in line with their actual growth, avoiding massive upfront over-capacity.
